The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Botswana works to support the Government of Botswana in building a food-secure, hunger-free country where food and agriculture contribute to improved living standards in an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable way. Its mandate includes providing technical assistance, capacity development, and policy guidance to enhance agricultural production, natural resource management, climate resilience and sustainable agrifood systems.
FAO supports national strategies and programmes aimed at strengthening food security and nutrition, improving agricultural value chains, promoting sustainable farming practices, and helping the country achieve its development goals in line with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2022–2026) and FAO’s global strategic objectives. The office also facilitates partnerships with government ministries, regional bodies, civil society and other UN agencies to tackle hunger, reduce malnutrition, build resilient livelihoods and promote inclusive growth in Botswana’s agricultural sector.
