The Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) is a parastatal institution established by an Act of Parliament to support national food security and agricultural development by providing a reliable and structured market for locally produced crops. Its core mandate is to purchase, store, manage, and distribute agricultural produce, particularly staple grains such as sorghum, maize, and millet from local farmers, while ensuring that adequate food supplies are available to the nation at affordable and stable prices. Through this role, BAMB protects farmers from market volatility by offering guaranteed prices, thereby encouraging domestic production and reducing reliance on imports. The Board also maintains strategic grain reserves, supports drought mitigation efforts, and plays a key role in government food assistance programmes.
