Ofentse Bakwadi Karate
Location: Gaborone

Ofentse Bakwadi, also known as “Shakes” or Sensei Bakwadi, is a distinguished karateka from Botswana, particularly recognized for his expertise in kata. Born on 17 January 1985, he comes from a family with deep karate roots. Throughout his career, Bakwadi represented Botswana at both junior and senior levels in individual kata, and occasionally in team kata competitions. He achieved international recognition, reaching the top ranks in the world; in 2018, he was ranked among the top five kata competitors globally.

After an impressive career spanning approximately 24 years, Bakwadi retired from competitive karate in 2023. His retirement aimed to “close the gap” by creating opportunities for emerging karatekas and dedicating more time to coaching. Since then, he has focused on mentoring and developing the next generation of karate athletes. Bakwadi now leads the SSKB Champions Karate Club and operates the OBK Karate Academy, where the emphasis extends beyond competition. His academy nurtures not only athletic skill but also the personal growth aspects of karate, including discipline, confidence, and concentration.
