Lenmed Hospitals are deeply rooted in the historical landscape of Southern Africa. They have provided exceptional private care to the communities they serve for over three decades. The first Lenmed Clinic in Lenasia, which opened its doors in 1984, is now the Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital. With state-of-the-art facilities and over 80 specialist medical practitioners, it stands proudly today as a testament to Lenmed’s excellence in clinical care.
Bokamoso Private Hospital is the first private hospital in Botswana to attain the following accreditations:
• COHSASA Accreditation
• Accredited by American College of Cardiology
• International Centre of Excellence Award – American College of Cardiology
• Accredited by the Trauma Society of South Africa
In addition to the above, Bokamoso Private Hospital is also the only hospital outside of the USA to receive Heart Failure accreditation and is proud to serve the country of Botswana with a superior private healthcare offering.
Lenmed started its journey in 1984 striving to become a leading healthcare provider in Africa.
From our humble beginnings in Lenasia, South of Johannesburg, our mission has been to create healthy and prosperous communities through our now 19 hospitals based in four countries in Africa.
Whilst providing our patients with quality private healthcare, we now employ over 3000 people, house 700 practicing doctors and treat over 200,000 patients each year.
Lenmed offer all major medical and surgical disciplines and have 24-hour emergency care at all our acute facilities.

Lenmed Private Hospital Group is proudly an industry-leading Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Contributor.
Lenmed’s Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal is the only hospital on the continent to be accredited by the American College of Cardiology and is the only hospital in the province to offer paediatric cardiac surgery. The hospital also proudly completed a cardiac transplant in 2022, launching the Lenmed transplant programme.
Bokamoso Hospital and Heart Centre is the only hospital in Botswana to offer cardiac services, vascular surgery and nuclear medicine.
Royal Hospital and Heart Centre in the Northern Cape offers the only cardiac and radiotherapy service in the province.
