Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
Location: Kgalagadi

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, established on May 12, 2000, is a vast conservation area spanning approximately 38,000 square kilometers across southern Africa. This unique park straddles the border between South Africa and Botswana, merging South Africa’s Kalahari Gemsbok National Park and Botswana’s Gemsbok National Park into a single ecological entity. Notably, about three-quarters of the park lies within Botswana, with the remaining portion in South Africa.

The park’s landscape is characterized by red dunes, sparse vegetation, and the dry riverbeds of the Nossob and Auob rivers, which flow only intermittently. This arid environment supports a diverse array of wildlife, including large herds of gemsbok, springbok, eland, and blue wildebeest, as well as predators like lions, cheetahs, leopards, and numerous bird species.
Visitors to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park can access the park through several entry points:

Twee Rivieren/Two Rivers Gate: The main entrance, located on the South African side, serves as the park’s administrative headquarters.

Mata Mata Gate: Situated on the western border, this gate provides access from Namibia.

Two Rivers Gate: Located on the Botswana side, near the South African border.
