Chobe National Park

Chobe National Park Chobe National Park
Location: Kasane

Established in 1968, Chobe National Park is Botswana’s first national park and spans approximately 11,700 square kilometers in the northern part of the country. Renowned for its rich biodiversity, the park encompasses a variety of ecosystems, including lush floodplains, swamps, and dense woodlands. It is particularly famous for hosting one of the largest concentrations of elephants in Africa, with estimates suggesting around 50,000 individuals.

The park is divided into four distinct regions:

  • Serondela (Chobe Riverfront): Located in the northeast, this area features lush floodplains and dense woodlands. The Chobe River attracts large herds of elephants, buffalo, and diverse bird species, especially during the dry season.

  • Savuti Marsh: Situated in the western part of the park, the Savuti Marsh is known for its dynamic wildlife, including predators like lions and hyenas, as well as large herds of zebras and wildebeest.

  • Linyanti Marsh: Found in the northwest, this region boasts riverine woodlands and lagoons, supporting species such as leopards, wild dogs, and various antelopes.

  • Nogatsaa and Tchinga: This less-visited central area offers a remote wilderness experience with a variety of wildlife and bird species.
