Botswana Public Officers' Medical Aid Scheme
The Botswana Public Officers’ Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) is a closed medical aid scheme established in 1990 through a Presidential Directive. It is administered by Associated Fund Administrators (AFA) Botswana (Pty) Ltd and serves as a comprehensive health cover solution exclusively for public service employees (civil servants) and eligible dependants. Principal Members are Public servants, civil servants, and certain parastatal employees.
Coverage extends to spouses, children, and, under specific conditions, parents and adult children. Rules governing adult dependants include age restrictions, proof of income dependency, and other eligibility criteria. BPOMAS offers three benefit tiers designed to meet diverse healthcare needs: Standard Option; High Option; and Premium Option
Each option provides varying levels of coverage, co-payments, and contributions, ensuring members can select a plan best suited to their healthcare requirements and financial circumstances.
