Botswana Health Professional Council

The Botswana Health Professions Council’s (BHPC) mandate is to regulate and promote high standards of health care practice in Botswana. The BHPC also protects the public’s health and welfare.
Some of the functions of the BHPC include:
- The registration of practitioners of the various professions, and the recognition of the requi- site qualifications for such professions
- Keeping custody and maintaining the relevant registers of the various professions.
- Monitoring standards of health care practice and medical ethics, and offering advice thereonto the practitioners of the various professions
- Investigating cases of professional misconduct and public complaints lodged against practi-tioners and brought to the attention of the Council
- Bringing to the attention of the Minister any information acquired by the Council and which itdeems to be of public importance and interest and to offer such advice thereon as it consid-ers may be relevant.
- Accreditation of health training programs and the determination of core competencies thatgraduates of such health training programs ought to attain.
- Promoting high standards of professional training, proficiency, professional conduct and eti-quette and
- Conducting inspection of premises of private practitioners to ensure they are in keeping withprescribed standards as befits facilities providing health care
