Baines Baobabs
Baines Baobabs is a renowned natural landmark located within Nxai Pan National Park in northeastern Botswana. This cluster of seven ancient baobab trees, also known as the “Sleeping Sisters,” was famously painted by explorer and artist Thomas Baines in 1862, lending the site its name. The baobabs are situated on a small island overlooking the Kudiakam Pan, offering a striking contrast against the expansive salt flats that surround them.
Visitors to Baines Baobabs can experience the unique landscape by staying at one of the three designated campsites in the area. Each campsite is equipped with basic facilities, including a pit latrine and a shower area; however, there is no running water, so guests must bring their own water supplies. The campsites are unfenced, providing an immersive experience in the natural environment. Due to limited capacity, with each site accommodating up to 12 people and three vehicles, advance reservations are essential.
