GIZ in Botswana (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) is the German development agency that implements international cooperation projects on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and other partners, including the European Union and the Austrian Development Agency. It supports sustainable and inclusive development in Botswana and the broader Southern African region.
GIZ’s work in Botswana focuses on several key areas. It enhances Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to better align vocational education with labour market needs, addressing skills shortages and improving youth employment opportunities. The agency also promotes regional cooperation with SADC, strengthening regional integration, peace and security, governance, and transboundary natural resource management, including water management and climate adaptation. GIZ implements programmes that encourage private sector participation, industrialisation, policy harmonisation, and sustainable development in sectors such as water, natural resources, and economic corridors. In addition, it provides capacity building, technical advisory services, and institutional support to governments and partner organisations to improve systems, policies, and programme implementation.
Overall, GIZ serves as a key development partner for Botswana and the SADC region, promoting skills development, regional integration, sustainable resource management, and inclusive economic growth.
