The European Union Delegation to the Republic of Botswana, which is also accredited to the Southern African Development Community (SADC), serves as the EU’s official diplomatic representation in Botswana and the region. Its mandate is to represent the European Union in political and diplomatic relations with the Government of Botswana and SADC, and to act as the main channel for political dialogue and cooperation.
The Delegation promotes EU policies, values, and priorities, including sustainable development, human rights, good governance, trade, economic diversification, and green and digital transformation. It manages and coordinates EU development cooperation and financial assistance programmes in line with Botswana’s national priorities, working closely with EU Member States and partners under the Team Europe approach.
In addition, the Delegation supports regional integration, peace, security, and cooperation within SADC, and undertakes public diplomacy by communicating EU initiatives and strengthening engagement with government, civil society, the private sector, and the public to enhance mutual understanding and partnership.
