The Department of Facilities Management is responsible for ensuring the continuous functionality, safety, and habitability of government buildings and facilities through coordinated maintenance and strategic oversight. It facilitates the maintenance of all government buildings and equipment in strict accordance with operations and maintenance manuals provided by the Department of Infrastructure Development, while also leading inter-ministerial coordination to ensure consistent upkeep aligned with applicable policies and guidelines. The Department conducts regular condition surveys to assess the state of repair of government facilities, determine associated maintenance and rehabilitation costs, and provide this critical information to respective Ministries for informed planning and budgeting. In addition, it identifies relevant research areas related to facilities management and shares these with the Department of Policy Research and Development, Monitoring & Evaluation to support evidence-based advice and improvements. The Department also monitors the implementation of Government Policy Reform 2015, specifically clause 3(b) on Affirmative Action in favour of youth, and supports this initiative through the development and management of a database for youth contractors and individuals with vocational skills, maintained in line with prescribed registration requirements to promote youth participation in government maintenance opportunities.
