The Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) is the premier regulatory and professional body responsible for overseeing the accounting profession in Botswana. Established under the Accountants Act of 2010, BICA’s mandate includes regulating the conduct and performance of accountants, ensuring adherence to international accounting and auditing standards, and promoting excellence, integrity, and accountability within the profession. The Institute plays a vital role in the development of the accounting field by offering professional qualifications, continuous professional development (CPD) programs, and guidance on ethical standards to its members. BICA collaborates closely with global bodies such as the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to maintain internationally recognized standards and practices. Through its education and certification pathways, BICA nurtures a new generation of qualified accountants equipped to support Botswana’s growing economy, corporate governance structures, and public sector financial management. The Institute also serves as a key advisor to the government on matters of financial reporting, corporate transparency, and fiscal accountability, thereby contributing significantly to national economic growth and good governance.
