The Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) is the statutory professional body for accountants in Botswana, established under the Accountants Act 2010 to regulate the accounting profession, maintain ethical and professional standards, and protect the public interest.
It runs the Botswana Chartered Accountancy Qualification (BCAQ) in partnership with ICAEW, oversees continuing professional development, examinations, and practical training, and enforces a code of ethics for its members. BICA also maintains membership registers, investigates and disciplines members for misconduct, and has suspended hundreds of accountants in recent years for non-compliance with its regulations. It is committed to strengthening public finance governance through initiatives such as partnering with the African Professionalisation Initiative (API) to professionalise accountants in the public sector
